Introduces students to the broad subject of historical memory, with a focus on the United States. Considers ways that historians have grappled with constructions of collective memory, personal memory, commemoration, and rememberance. Focuses on publicly controversial topics like remembering slavery, the Civil War, and the use of the Atomic Bomb in World War II.
