History Graduate Students' Union, or HGSU, is a representative association for the history graduate students at the University of Calgary. We represent and advocate for all graduate students in our department and wish to foster an inclusive and engaging community.

All students are de facto members, though it is completely up to the individual as to how much they'd like to participate in the various HGSU events and communications. Our executive council consists of graduate students whom have been nominated and elected to their positions. Currently, the positions are as follows:

President - Scott Dumonceaux
Vice-President Finance - Sandy Barron
Vice-President Academic - Shawn Brackett
Vice-President Social - Kesia Kvill
Vice-President Communication - Samantha Lemna
Secretary - Sean Maunier

We meet monthly to discuss issues affecting history graduate students and to plan our events, lectures, and conferences. Some of our recent events are board game/pizza nights and trips to local historical attractions. We also co-ordinated a 'Grad Guide' program to help incoming history graduate students acclimatize to the University of Calgary and graduate studies. Each year we host the Bow River graduate student conference; Chiniki Lecture; New Perspectives lecture; and various colloquiums.

You can find us on facebook, twitter, and on our blog, where we post on a variety of topics. Our email is - feel free to email us with any questions or concerns.
