Notes: This course examines the ideas of Canadian intellectuals on technology. It begins with Thomas Keefer+s writings on railroads in the mid-19th century and concludes with a session on current theorists of technology.. Some of the individuals whose ideas are examined in the course are William Lyon Mackenzie King, Stephen Leacock, Harold Innis, Marshall McLuhan, and George Grant. The course also includes a session on the Group of Seven artists and one on Frederick Philp Grove's novel, The Master of the Mill. The course is a seminar where students discuss common readings, which are predominantly primary sources.
All 500-level History courses are restricted to History
