Together with Dr. Fernando Vidal, ICREA Research Professor, Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, Dr. Frank W. Stahnisch organized a successful international panel (S62), entitled “Knowledge Translation in Mental Health: History and Forms of a Global Imperative,” at the International Congress of the History of Science and Technology (ICHST), which was held at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil from July 23 to July 30, 2017.  The panel brought together experts from Canada, Spain, and South Korea to explore aspects of the history of “Knowledge Translation” (KT) in selected areas in the field of mental health across the world, including psychopharmacology, Alzheimer’s Disease research, the disorders of consciousness, LSD psychotherapy, mental health screening, neurocentric approaches, and the philosophical dimensions of knowledge translation.  Dr. Stahnisch’s own paper given to this international audience had the topic of “From Auguste Deter to Modern Genetic Testing: A Century of Alzheimer Research between Promises, Funding Expenses, and Meagre Therapeutic Success,” which analyzed the claims and failures in Alzheimer research since the original description of the disease in 1906.
