The Battle of Britain: The RAF and Luftwaffe, 1940
The Second Annual New Perspectives on the World Wars Colloquium
The History Graduate Students' Union and Calgary Military Museums' Society are pleased to announce a special colloquium and reception in honour of the 70th Anniversary on the Battle of Britain featuring talks by Sebastian Cox and Richard R. Muller.
This evening is the second annual "New Perspectives on the World Wars Symposium," and is host to two talks by pre-eminent air force historians. Sebastian Cox, Official Historian of the RAF, spoke about the Battle of Britain from the British Commonwealth perspective. He will be followed by Dr. Richard Muller, Professor of Military History and Associate Dean of the USAF School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, who spoke about the battle from the German perspective.

Sebastian Cox is the Head of the Air Historical Branch in the Royal Air Force in the Ministry of Defence. He is a graduate of Warwick University and King's College, London. He was curator of documents at the Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon, before joining the Air Historical Branch as a researcher in 1984. In 1996 he was appointed as Head of the Branch in - the first civilian to hold the post. He has written widely on the history of the RAF and air power, and has edited a two book series on the subject which included Growth of Fighter Command, 1936-1940 (2001). He will speak about the Battle of Britain from the British Commonwealth perspective. |
Richard R. Muller is a Professor of Military History and Associate Dean of the USAF School of Advanced Air and Space Studies. He received his BA in history from Franklin and Marshall College, and his MA and PhD degrees in military history from Ohio State University. Dr. Muller is the author of The German Air War in Russia: The Luftwaffe's Way of War 1911-1945 (with James S. Corum) and most recently The Luftwaffe Over Germany: Defense of the Reich (with Donald L. Caldwell). He has also published numerous articles, book chapters and reviews on the subject. Dr. Muller will be speaking about the Battle of Britain from the German perspective.
